Iran Starts 20% Uranium Enrichment

TEHRAN: Iran has announced injecting gas into centrifuges at Fordow plant, resuming, what has been reported as, 20% uranium enrichment.

Local news agency Mehr quoted government spokesperson Ali Rabiei as saying that Iran counteractive plans to enrich uranium to up to 20% purity, and that the gas injection process into centrifuges started “hours ago” following President Hassan Rouhani’s recent order on the implementation of the plan.

The government spokesperson said that the enrichment resumed this morning after the pre-requisite measures such as informing the International Atomic Energy Agency and submitting a questionnaire based on the country’s safeguard obligations had been taken.

It may be recalled that in December last year, the Iranian parliament approved a bill aimed at the lifting of sanctions after the failure of JCPOA’s European parties to fulfill commitments and in wake of the assassination of an Iranian scientist.
