4 US Marines Among 43 Killed, Over 120 Injured In Kabul Airport Bombings

KABUL: At least 4 US Marines and 39 others lost lives and more than 120 other including foreign troops were injured in twin blasts that took place at one of the gates of Kabul Airport on Thursday. The explosions came after warnings of a security threat at the crowded airport facility by US, UK and other western governments.
Eye witnesses claimed a suicide bomber struck at Abbey gate of the Kabul Airport, in an apparent bid to target foreign troops. Sources claimed private security contractor Dynacorp (same like Blackwater) was likely target. Locals present on the occasion captured a number of pics and videos and posted the same on social media. Eye witnesses also reported gunfire after the blast.
Those who were present on the spot claimed that the casualties at the gate of Kabul airport was very high as there were piles of dead bodies littering on the streets. Some of them are of foreigners.
On the other hand, Turkish Defense Ministry said two explosions took place outside Kabul Airport, while Turkish units remained safe.
UK defense sources confirmed that there were two explosions outside Kabul airport. One explosion occurred by Barons Hotel, followed by small arms fire, then a second explosion occurred by Abbey Gate. Initial assessment suggested that there were no UK military casualties.
Meanwhile, Afghan Taliban have strongly condemned the explosions and killings of civilians. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the explosion took place in an area where US forces are responsible for security. He said the Islamic Emirate is paying close attention to the security and protection of its people, and evil circles will be strictly stopped.
