KABUL: The death toll as a result of gruesome attack on a public gathering in the west of Kabul on Friday has climbed to 32, with some 55 others injured.
Reports received from multiple sources suggest people gathered in the memory of Abdulali Mazari and a speech was going on when gunmen opened fire, spraying bullets on the participants.
Eye witnesses speak of a mayhem at the site of attack, with dozens of bodies piled up and people running for safety when the attack started. Some casualties also took place due to a wall collapsed, triggered by the stampede.
Local reports said Afghan Taliban have denied involvement in the attack where Abdullah Abdullah, who claimed to have secured majority in recent presidential polls, was also present. Abdullah Abdullah has favored releasing Afghan Taliban prisoners, contrary to President Ashraf Ghani’s stance.
