Violence Erupts In India’s Manipur, Restrictions Imposed

NEW DELHI: Several people including women and children were injured in violent clashes that broke out between locals and Indian police in the Moreh area, state of Manipur.

Regional Telegraph has learnt that the Indian authorities have imposed prohibitory orders for one month after at least 4 police commandos were injured in series of attacks by locals.

Locals said clashes started when police badly thrashed two innocent civilians in Moreh, who were later rushed to hospital.

A large number of people gathered outside the hospital and started chanting slogans, which later turned into a procession against police highhandedness.

Local police responded with massive tear gas shelling and baton charging, as a result of which several people including women and children were injured. Locals alleged the police used expired tear gas shells to target civilians in the area.
