Indian Navy was readying its Landing Platform Dock warship INS Jalashwa and two Magar class amphibious warships for evacuating Indian citizens from Gulf countries

NEW DELHI: Indian media reports suggest that the Indian Navy ships have been ordered to be on standby for evacuating potentially hundreds of thousands of citizens stuck in the Gulf due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Media reports quoted official sources as saying that the Indian Navy was readying its Landing Platform Dock warship INS Jalashwa and two Magar class amphibious warships for evacuating Indian citizens from Gulf countries.

This came within days after a widening gulf between Arab nations and Indians over social media in the wake of the vilification drive fanned by Hindutva votaries against Indian Muslims and Islam after Corona virus outbreak.

Social media users in the Gulf region were noticed calling out Indians for their anti-Muslim and anti-Islam comments. Besides these, a member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) royal family, Princess Hend Al Qassimi, warning that Indians working in the wealthy country would be “fined and made to leave” if they made racist and discriminatory comments.

Although there have been no indications on when such a mission will be launched, however, it seems it will begin after the lockdown ends on May 3.
