One Killed, 4 Injured As Nepalese Border Police Open Fire at Indians

NEW DELHI: At least one Indian national was killed and 4 other injured when border police of Nepal opened fire at dozens of Indians who were trying to cross border.

According to reports gathered by the Regional Telegraph, the incident took place at at the Lalbandi-Janki Nagar border in Pipra Parsain panchayat under Sonebarsha police station of the district after reported clashes between Indians and Nepal police personnel.

The casualties were rushed to city hospital, while those involved in the brawl were taken into custody by Nepalese authorities. The deceased has been identified as Dikesh Kumar (25).

Among those injured were Umesh Ram, who was shot on his right arm, and Uday Thakur, who was shot on right thigh. The injured were being treated at Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nepal shares a 1,850-km open border with India and people travel across it for work and to visit family. It had closed its international borders on March 22 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
