TEHRAN: At least 19 people were killed and scores other injured as a result of multiple explosions that took place in a hospital in Iran’s capital Tehran last night.
According to information gathered by the Regional Telegraph, 15 women and 4 men were among those killed in the incident which, according to officials, was caused by oxygen cylinders explosion at Sina Athar hospital.
Soon after the explosion, people rushed to the spot and posted images and videos on social media, showing patients stuck inside the building trying to jump out of the blazing floors.
Iran’s State TV quoted Tehran fire department spokesman Jalal Maleki saying that the explosion occurred as gas canisters caught fire in the clinic’s basement.
Fire fighters battled for several hours to douse the blaze and rescue the stranded people from inside the hospital building.
Videos posted by social media users showed blast after blast at the site of the blaze, while some patients stuck at the top floors crying for help.
