50 Killed, Hundreds Missing In Myanmar Jade Mine Landslide

YANGON: At least 50 workers were killed and hundreds went missing as a result of landslide that struck a jade mine in Myanmar’s Kachin state.

According to reports made available so far, the landslide was caused by heavy monsoon rains in Sate Mu village tract of Hpakant township at 08:00 a.m. local time.

Eye witnesses said the landslide collapsed from about a thousand feet into the working area, burying people on the spot.

Local administration officials said there are fears of hundreds more missing in the incident, as the water level had risen to more than 10 feet after the landslide in the area.
