50 Injured In Blast Near Afghan Intelligence Office In Samangan

Afghan Taliban claim responsibility for the attack, saying clashes are underway.

KABUL: At least 50 people were injured in a power explosion that ripped through the office of Afghan Intelligence in Aybak city, Samangan’s center on Monday.

Local sources quoted governor’s spokesman, Muhammad Sediq Azizi saying the explosion was caused by a car bomb that targeted the NDS facility .

Eye witnesses said they heard gunfire soon after the explosion, something which has also been confirmed by Raza Muhammad, the head of Samangan Provincial Council.

Authorities expressed fears that although no one had been declared dead, some of those injured in the explosion were in critical condition. Security forces rushed to the spot after the explosion and cordoned off the area.
