Karachi Incident: Army Chief Orders Probe

RAWALPINDI: The ISPR has just informed that taking notice of Karachi incident , Army Chief Gen Bajwa has directed Commander Karachi Corps to immediately inquire in to the circumstances to determine the facts and report back as soon as possible.

The message by ISPR came within minutes after PPP’s Bilawal, addressing a press conference in Karachi, demanded of the Army Chief and DG ISI to investigate as to who surrounded residence of IG Sindh during wee hours, referring to the alleged kidnapping of the provincial police chief during which he was forced to register FIR against Capt (R) Safdar, husband of PMLN leader Maryam Nawaz, for desecrating sanctity of Mazar-e-Quaid.

It may be mentioned here that an audio call surfaced the other day, former Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair was allegedly narrating that he had been told by the CM Sindh that IG Sindh was kidnapped and forced to register FIR against Captain (R) Safdar.

Earlier today, a letter written by Additional Special Branch IG Yaqoob Minhas surfaced in which he expressed desire to go for two months earned leave, saying it was difficult for him to discharge duty in wake of humiliation and mishandling suffered by Sindh Police during the episode of Capt (R) Safdar’s arrest.

This triggered a wave of such applications, from high to low ranking police officers, demanding to go on leave. Media reports also suggested that even the provincial police chief, IG Mushtaq Mehar, had also gone on leave.
