KARACHI: At least five people lost their lives and 20 other injured, several of them seriously, as a result of mysterious explosion that took place in a multi storey building in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Wednesday.
Rescue workers and Police, LEAs rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area which witnessed a portion of collapsed building and several people crying for help.
Rescue workers shifted over a dozen people to nearby hospital, where five of them were declared dead, while several said to be critical.
Initial reports suggest that the blast took place at the top of Meezan Bank, shattering the nearby residential portions and damaging some vehicles parked outside as well.
SSP East said the blast was apparently caused by a cylinder, yet Bomb Disposal team would examine the site and submit their final report.
It may be recalled that just yesterday, an explosion was reported in Karachi’s Shireen Jinnah Colony in which at least six people were injured. The cause of the blast was said to be some kind of explosive.
